Angel's ped set up an appointment for her to be tested for Dyslexia---they couldnt get her in until July 23. I don't think it would really matter much to have her tested before this school year is over anyway so July works for us. Some of the testing will not be covered under her medical card so it will give us time to save up $$$$$$$$!!!!!

ok where do I start sad.gif

on the dyslexia testing.....she is reading lots of words backwards (reading was as saw etc) still reversing b and d,p and q and numbers like 6 and 9. He wants to wait until she is 9 to do more extensive testing. That means she will still be able to carry the developmentally delayed label in school this year for services and then more testing for dyslexia in the spring of 09.

IQ testing was the sadest part of my day sad.gif
Angel obtained a full scale IQ score of 73 placing her within borderline range of intellectual functioning. He actually said a step up from mentally retarded cry2

He is helping us with her IEP
He jotted down notes for us to take to school to amend the IEP and a meeting will be called when we can gather everyone who needs to attend.

New accomodations include
decrease homework by 50%
always be allowed recess at school(not allowed to take away as a pinishment..will have to use something else in form of punishment)
have a set of books for home use
set in front of the class
one on one assistance with academics and during testing for focus

We dropped by the school and talked with the principal who agreed with everything except for funding the 1 on 1 aide but did discuaa a new program they are starting this year for 2nd graders.

It's called Family Preservation Services Inc..it will be paid through Angel's medical card. It's 5 days a week..8 hours a day. A qualified mental health professional (have to have a bachelor degree or higher in the human service field and one or more years clinical experience working with children) provide redirection to student to assist them with remaining on task, increasing attention, social skills development and problem solving techniques. They have 3 to 5 students within the same class. She will also have 2 teachers,a regular classroom aide and a special ed teacher that comes in during reading and math to assist the special needs children.
Wayne and I agreed to meet with this person before making a decision on whether we will give that program a try or get a lawyer and fight for 1 on 1 aide.

We also asked the principle to decrease speech therapy to 1x per week so she wouldnt be pulled from class 3x's per week like orginally planned and to purchase a sensory compression vest for school.
