Angel had the triennal eval done to see where shes at and if shes still in need of OT or other services

OT was seeing her onced a week but will pull back to twice a month---shes still behind on self help skills but apparantly thats not a school issue

ST---OMG--this is where I need hugs----could just kick myself for not pushing for speech not to be dropped at the end of last year-remember Angel was discharged from ST at the end of last year cause they claimed she was caught up in that area and that there was also nothing more they could do for her feeding issues--well heres the eval from a new SLT trained in feeding issues that the school hired for this year
The preschool language third edition was administered to assess receptive and expressive language--Angels receptive language score was 78 which reveals a mild delay--expressive communication standard score was 66 which reveals a SEVERE language disorder---The beckman oral motor assessment was administered to assess strength and coordination of oral muscles---the assessment revealed weak strength and coordination of cheeks and tongue--fluency skills are normal and voice is age appropriate
Approach---ST to start working with her three times a week

I also need some hugs for this blow---they told us at the beginning of the year that Angel was one of the most advanced in her class so we thought she was doing well....on to the Wechsler Individual Achievement Test--second edition
Word reading--89
numerical operations-74
math reasoning-68
spelling-88
listening comprehension--76
oral expression--82

psychological
DAS
verbal--85
nonverbal--110
spatial--63
GCA--83
Angel did very well on certain parts of the -*test*-('"),when problems require her to use processing skills in which she is weak her attention wavered
Angel struggles with higher level thought processes
short term memory--auditory--82--visual--76

Strengths
Angel is doing well at this point of kindergarten with more concrete concepts--behaviorally she has made great strides since the start of school--she is making headway with her eating problem--she seems to need more time--plan to change lunch schedule to adapt to her needs

She enjoys learning activities, but her social and emotional skills still appear to be comparable to those of a younger child. The parents are very supportive and involved in Angels academic efforts

weaknesses
Angel has difficulty expressing herself about concepts--comprehension is difficult--without supports she would have much more difficulty

observations during evals
poor attention
Angel was in constant motion during class

Angel continues to be eligible for services in the category of developmental delay with speech language impairment as a secondary
next eval will be at age 9,will be able to better assess a Learning disabilty and what type at that time preemiegroup/cry.gif

Work habits
Angel requires verbal prompts to stay on tasks, but does complete her work and desires to please

Peer relationships
Angel has the desire to be/have friends, however the students view her as intrusive preemiegroup/cry.gif

Special alternative actions taken to alleviate students learning problems
preferential seating, verbal prompts and redirection, extra time to complete assignments, checking for understanding of directions

The report was very upsetting for me--but I guess my real fear/anxiety was hearing/and seeing in writing the whole LD(learning disabilty)

Up until this point it had always been developmental delays but she was making strides to catch up--then at the end of last year we were told she was caught up in most areas and even knew all the material she would need to know for kindergarten through most of the kindergarten year---so it was kind of a blow to me to hear learning disabilty---I have talked to a wonderful lady by phone(preemie mom)---between your kind words and hugs and my conversation with her I am feeling better---I also am aware the problem of her processing information is stemming from her SID and who knows,in three years when they do the next triennal eval it might be resolved

I am proud of how hard my Lil Bit does work and I can tell shes doing her best and thats all that really matters

I am glad she was approved for the services she needs and will be getting the extra help

HUGS to you all preemiegroup/CCChugs.gif preemiegroup/CCChugs.gif preemiegroup/CCChugs.gif preemiegroup/CCChugs.gif
